Stop stressing over the scale…
By Terrie Myers
It is easy to obsess about a “goal weight”, or get disappointed when we are eating right and exercising, but not losing weight. Try changing your way of thinking. Instead of losing weight, try to focus on reaching a healthy body composition. Body composition is the measurement of body fat in relation to lean body mass. A normal balance of body fat is associated with good health and longevity. What should you focus on to achieve fat loss? Training properly: Instead of long steady state cardio, focus on interval training. This could mean adding sprint or hill intervals to you run, adding plyometrics (controlled jump training), or any other interval style workout. Most importantly, you need to focus on strength training. Adding more muscle increases you metabolic rate, which boosts the amount of calories you burn throughout the day. Eating healthy is a big part of fat loss. Make sure you are eating enough protein, and have a well balanced diet.
When you are working out, think about becoming stronger instead of losing pounds. When you build muscle the scale may not change, but your body will. Your clothes will fit differently and you will feel better overall!
