Running is a big part of my life in many ways. I use it as a way to keep in shape, but it is also a passion of mine. It can be like therapy in many ways. It has let me feel the joy and pride of accomplishment. I started running in high school. But it didn’t become a big part of my life until 2008. My daughter was about a year old and running became my time. My time to run with friends, to talk to adults, to get a workout in, my time to stay healthy. In 2009 I ran my first marathon in San Diego with a group called Team in Training. I was hooked. Just 6 months later I ran my second marathon in Harrisburg, cut 20 minutes off my time, and qualified for the Boston Marathon. I was ecstatic! In 2010 I ran the Boston Marathon. It was exciting, intimidating, and just an overall memorable experience. I went on to run 8 more marathons.
For me running was what thrusted me into a career in fitness. Running is not for everyone, but I encourage everyone to try something that challenges them. If your goal is to run a 5K, then look up a training plan and do it! It is not as scary as it seems. Do something that you are passionate about and let it drive you to stay healthy and live your life to the fullest.
If you have been thinking about signing up for a race, or just have questions about starting to run, I’d love to help you! It can be intimidating, so having support always makes it seem more achievable. I don’t run as much as I used to, but running will always be a part of my life. I’d love to help you get started, or help you achieve a goal that you have set for yourself!
